FLY's mission is to prevent juvenile crime and incarceration through legal education, mentoring and leadership training.
Our vision is that the most marginalized and underserved youth will gain the life skills and character needed to transform themselves from delinquent youth into positive community leaders.

Each year 13,000 youth are cited in just one California county for juvenile offenses. A study of incarcerated youth found that:
- 91% do not have positive adult role models in their lives.
- 83% do not have basic life skills to resist peer pressure and make healthy choices.
- 78% have used marijuana; 62% have used cocaine, heroin, or amphetamines.

- 96% of youth state FLY provides them with positive adult role models.
- 92% of them report they now make healthier choices and are less likely to break the law.
- 89% of youth with mentors report a reduction in drug/ alcohol use after only six months.
- 85% of youth in the year-long Leadership Program do not re-offend during the program.
- 2,000 --- Hours youth in the Leadership Program provide in community service annually.
